Of course I’ll be devastated leaving Tiverton and my friends but, I’m looking forward to starting a new page in life! Hopefully, I’ll still be in contact with many of my classmates.
General Memories Before, there was a staff called Miss Palmer and she would play the piano, making everyone join in and sing. There was a particular song called “Noah” and there was a line saying, “Who built the ark?”. The children then would chant Noah. Some people would mistake it as ‘No-one’.
Teacher Memories In year 3, our teacher Miss Bahadur, would sometimes call me “Princess Diana” and everybody would look at me; I felt like I wanted to just disappear into thin air. I also remembered that she said to me that she wanted to try out one of my country’s traditional dish!
Memories of School Trips and Events I remember when we went to Chessington World Of Adventures in Year 5, one of us in our group couldn’t go on a particular ride because of their height. So, we decided that we went on a water ride. In the ride, we had to get in a log. I was in the front and as it was going down very quickly, I hit my nose on the log!
Memories of School Clubs and Sports I remember in Musical Theatre club, there weren’t so many people in that lesson and the teacher in charge of it, Kate, said that everyone had act. Everyone knew that I was quite shy and kept cheering me to get up; in the end, I did act and I felt my heart racing ever so quickly!

Current Profile:

I went back to Sierra Leone after 1989 and continued to attend school.I ended up getting six o’Levels and four A’Levels from the Grammar School.I then proceeded to University and studied for a B.Sc Accounting and afterwards a Law degree. After University,I taught at an High School for one year and worked at the Anti-Corruption Commission in Sierra Leone for over four years as a Financial Crimes Investigator.

I have been back in the United Kingdom since September 2010 completing a Masters degree in Forensic Accounting here at Sheffield Hallam University in Sheffield,South Yorkshire. I am married with two lovely daughters.

General Memories

I remember joining the mixed 3rd/4th years. We did not wear uniforms then.My cousin,Blanchard Campbell was in the nursery. We would come to school in the morning which was a five minutes walk from our old flat at John Masefield House,Fladbury Road,N15,6sd. We would be in the play ground with other pupils till the dinnerlady,Elaine rang the bell for assembly in the hall. At Devotion,Mrs Young would read us a story and we would sing a song-My favourite song was”The animals went…..”a song which told how Noah in the bible took the animals into the ark to get out of the rains.I was later to find this project useful when I visited Egypt much later in August2008 to seethe pyrmaids, sphinx, mummies and pharaohs for real!!!! Then we would go in our classes, did maths,English and at other days we went on activities like swimming. In Summer,we would have a picnic in the compound decorated with lovely bright daffodils. I enjoyed the activities and remember very well, the class activity we did on the history and civilization of Ancient Egypt. We learnt heroglyphics alphabet, made a model of mummies of the Pharaohs, the pyrmaids and also the Shaduf(this was an irrgation tool used by ancient Egyptian farmers to store water from the Nile! Our class teacher,Ms McArthur learnt us a song she composed about Ancient Egypt-“I have seen the golden sunshine..”We sang this in our school concert.Dinner time was fun.Elaine our dinnerlady wl blow the whistle and we’ll go out and play for like 15 minutes while dinner is prepared. We would thereafter line up to be served dinner in the hall and everybody would rush to finish dinner to go out and play again, after which we would go in again do some work and keep our ears open to hear the sound of the last bell signaling the end of the school day.The rest of the day was spent at a nearby play center, where we’ll be until we got picked up by our parents.

Teacher Memories

I remember Mrs Young our headteacher she had a beetles volkswagen car!!!,Mrs Bullock(I’m not sure but think she was in the admin office)Ms McArthur our class teacher in the mixed 3rd/4th years,Ms Modi,Jenny(I think she was responsible for sick pupils)and Elaine the dinnerlady. They were all caring and supportive, making us feel very happy!

Memories of School Trips and Events

We usually went on Swimming-I think weekly. It was fun to ride in the school coach then. I remember we went on a trip to Pickets Lock and spent the day there. There were lots of fun and games. We also visited the London museum during the activity on Ancient Egypt. During Summer,we had a school picnic where we brought pack lunch prepared by our parents. This was held in the school compound and we were happy. I took part in the one school concert where we sang the following songs after lots of practice sessions with the piano in the hall.I remember we sang songs like -O Island in the Sun -Beside the Seaside -In Dublins fair city -I have seen the Golden Sunshine.I think this was composed by Ms McArthur!!! Quite apart from these events,we had regular games and sport sessions in the hall where we played hockey and did physical exercises with lots of Indoor games.

Memories of School Clubs and Sports

I do not particularly remember a sports day,but like I have said,we had lots of fun paying in the swings and slides in the school compound, indoor games like table tennis, hockey and so on. Music Clubs…..I can’t think of one,but singing was part of the school life.We sang at least one song at assembly in the morning! And learnt loads in preparation for our school concert!!Apart from attending church,I think Tiverton was where I fell in love with singing!!.Perhaps this love was responsible for me having to join our school and church choir when I returned back to Sierra Leone!!! I still sing in my local church Choir! I still remember names of friends whom I was in class with-Lester,Issie,Elaine,Tammie,Kathrine,Chee-ho,Chi-wing,Stavros,Keepros,Mark,Luke,Aurdene,Errol,Leslie Calender.I wouldn’t mind contacting them if they’re still around!!!

Year of Leaving

1991

Current Profile

I studied Optometry in London and work at St Thomas’ hospital

General Memories

Some of the happiest moments in my life were at this school along with my brother Achal Mehta. My fondest memory was the amazing interaction the teachers had with my mother who recently immigrated to the country. They treated her with so much respect which filled me with pride and comfort. So ethnically diverse which is what made this school/ area so special. In 1991 we moved to south-east London where life was very different and appreciation of Tiverton Primary couldn’t have grown greater. I remember receiving a card from all my friends at Tiverton saying how they were missing me. I was speechless at the time. That card made me smile for months. Old friends include Bhavika Mistry and Chaya Patel.

Teacher Memories

Ms Palmer. Truly like a mother to me at the time. So caring. I remember she had a son called Benjy think. They came to our small flat near the school to celebrate my birthday. I would love to see her again one day.

Memories of School Trips and Events

I remember swimming lessons. They were a lot of fun. Also for some reason, I remember the keep safe when you cross the road video. I know- strange memory.

Current Profile

Graduated secondary school with 9 A*-C GCSEs and dyed my hair pink. I loved this school so much I came back to work here in 2015.

General Memories

Achieving 2 trophies and several medals/plaques during my time here. Getting the Academic Award in Year 6 plus my SATS results was amazing. Both of my younger sisters went here too and had good memories.

Teacher Memories

I had some amazing teachers and listing all of them would take a very long time, and I don’t want to risk leaving anyone out, so big thanks to all that worked with me (particularly during my earlier years when I was a bit of a brat at times).

Memories of School Trips and Events

Again, would take ages to list all of the amazing trips and events. I remember quad biking in PGL was one of my favorite activities, along with fencing and zip wire. They said there was £10 in the tire at the end if you could reach it. The Science Museum sleepover was also a lot of fun; my sleeping bag was positioned in a place where I had a great view of the floor below. I also had the opportunity to visit an actual newspaper publisher and design my own front page, which I still have a copy of.

Memories of School Clubs and Sports

I remember being in art club, ICT club, dance clubs, piano, knitting club, school newspaper, and several others. I found extracurricular clubs here to be a lot of fun.

I love Topaz! They were like my second family, we had ups and downs and we weren’t normal but, hey, no family is never normal or perfect.
