Making 3D shapes Garnet class were making 3D shapes using straws and play-dough. The children were investigating the amount of straws needed to make each shape.

Our butterflies As part or our science topic ‘All living things’ this half term,  we were given caterpillars. The children were very excited to watch, first hand, the stages of metamorphosis. We now have 10 butterflies ready to be set free.

Our Trips this half term! We have been fortunate enough to go on two trips this half term, with a final trip to London Zoo next week! London week trip to Hampstead heath, then to The Natural History Museum.

Role Play Our class text this half term was ‘There’s a boy in the girls’ bathroom’ the children have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and have gained a deep understanding of the characters. One method of developing their understanding, is through role play; hot seating. Where the children pretend to be the character, who is then interviewed with a range of questions.

Alex created a superb costume for World Book Day, making most of his costume and props! Teyah won the most improved attendance and was awarded a certificate from Ms Arslan! The Big Read We have introduced the Big Read into year 5. The children are thoroughly engrossed in our new book ‘Wolf Brother’ They cannot wait till the next lesson to read more, as the story line leaves them in suspense! Will Torak ever make it to the mountain of the World Spirit?

Using laptops to research famous figures to write a biography Part of our English unit this half term, we learnt how to write biographies! The children supported their biographies with research. They produced outstanding work, full of biographical features. Queen Elizabeth ll, Lionel Messi and Cleopatra were a few figures the children researched.
